God i hate comcasts tech support, I called up today with 2 problems 1 my dns kept failing on my bridged connection with a static ip so could i have a few dns server numbers that were close to me, they replied by saying they change to often and they can't give them to me. I've also been having a problem with my internet causing pages to randomly not be displayed until refreshed multiple times. aka bullshit caused by the modem and the cache, that happens with older models of comcast modems. So basically comcast gave me a shitty old modem that should be thrown away,
and the guy on the phone was very smart, cool, and was a pretty smart guy when it came to networking. They people he had directed me to for the modem ended up saying itd cost me 40 bucks to have one of ;their techs come out and replace a modem that is old and messed up on their behalf, why should i pay for something i can do and is their fault for being cheap and pushing their old shitty modem on me. Thanks again comcast.

Hi,
I certainly agree that the drum and bugle corps activity is highly valuable to its young participants. I too wish there were government funds to promote such a great cause. In my professional life (healthcare) I sadly experience co-workers who lack dedication and commitment to performing their best in their chosen profession. Therefore, each time I attend a drum corps competition, not only am I inspired by the performances I've witnessed, but am also pleased to realize that these young folks will likely apply this work ethic and attitude to their future careers. I hope some choose careers in healthcare or politics. Our society would greatly benefit from the efforts of the fine individuals who emerge from the drum corps activity.

I LOVE BACKWARDS FRIDAY!

I also love enemas, getting corn chips stuck in my gums, and hot pokers shoved through my eye sockets and deep into my brain. That's the best.

I just discovered a site called "BBSMates" that had a listing for Blue Confabulation... too. The same Google search brought me to this blog entry, and so I'm commenting because... eh, fuq'd if I know.

It's nice to bump into someone else from The Old Days, wot? And if you haven't escaped Eastern Washington yet... do so!

I wish my wallet was fat. If you're for an non-neutral internet I'm curios to know what ISP you're an exedcutive for? Allowing companies to decide what sites get connections based on payment undermines the whole point of the internet, Lots of people have small sites that get a lot of traffic (wordpress.com for example due to the scobleizer blog) are they now expected to pay more money to charter or comcast so people can get timely access to the site?
The pressuring people you must be speaking of include the verizon exec who said "no more free lunch for google". Google pays a lot of money for their bandwidth and the multiple fiber networks they purchased. In addition to that last time I checked I write a check to comcast every month for "internet service" not "certain approved websites that pay a premium to be accessible to our customers".
I pay for bandwidth for my business site to be reached, I pay for my internet service so why should I be forced to deal with an internet that is beholden to the whims of corporate greed?
sorry man I gotta side with logic on this.

I suppose I can understand not supporting Vonage per say but it is pretty nonsensical that offering the same services as other companies at a higher price is a strange business model. I am pretty impressed with the newer VOD stuff although the free movies need updated more and the broadband speeds need to be increased again to keep up with Verizon's Fios (without adding $40 to the price).
I enjoy when I talk to comcast techs that say "as long as you can browse the web sir your service is considered to be working fine" at which point I ask them why I can't connect via ftp or manage to connect to a team fortress server and then they tell me that those aren't supported.

I of course feel it necessary to remind them the company advertises "internet service and thus support all of the internet service ports". 90% of the time I get a response of "what?" which I know may be natural since not everyone is a computer geek but c'mon your job is to troubleshoot network issues over the phone. Crack open a "network for dummies" book or something.

This reminds me of back in the day when I did support for gateway. We used a very subtle system of letting the customers know that they wanted to get our call center due to the houston call center doing what it could to just end calls quickly rather than actually solving the problem, including telling customers to format to fix a driver issue (nice eh?). Whereas those of us in the beaverton call center thought nothing of having a 2 hour calltime just to make sure we helped the users.

I've called comcast support to get an alternate set of dns addresses due to zero response from the dns servers. The comcast support guy kept wanting me to reboot my computer and my router and apparently unplug my cable box as well. I asked him 9 times for the dns address info and due to the script or his lack of understanding he wouldn't give them to me until I told him to grab a supervisor.

IMHO call center folks should get a minimum of $20 an hour but at the same time they should know their networking topography and the tcp/ip stack. That way it minimizes the number of script readers (hey managers either write better scripts or get rid of them, the callers HATE being read a form letter). while increasing the level of support.

I know that would displace a few of the employees who got the job due to marrying into HR but it will work better in the long run for happiness of techs (no more being the only smart one in the cube maze) and for the callers (in fact you'll get emails/calls of "thank you so much for hearing my problem and really listening to me").
